I think the point of the movie eluded you. It had nothing to say about journalism, or anything else you mentioned. It was a commentary on apathy and sensationalism of crisis. That was it, it was presenting a crisis and then showing how people responded. At the end, when the people watching it on TV immediately go back to playing foosball after someone is shot. It was affecting how accurate a portrayal the current state of America is in and how everyday this all seems.
