This is one of the best comments I’ve read on the whole Mayim Bialik debacle, because you recognize the convolutions and self-blame in her thinking. I felt very angry about her claim that dressing modestly protects against sexual assault — I know from personal experience that it is not true. Even so, she has clearly internalized all the stereotypes about female beauty that she has encountered in Hollywood. If she had spoken up about that and how she herself has been harmed by these sexist stereotypes, it would have led to a different conversation — and a more fruitful one.
