The Art of Frank Ocean’s Music

Are you laying in bed, staring at the ceiling, searching for the perfect artist that fits your vibe? Well, here’s why Frank Ocean is the perfect choice. Frank Ocean is an immaculate singer, songwriter, and a producer. What makes him one of the defining artists of our time is how his themes like youth, innocence, failed love, and loneliness are perceived in a fresh and extraordinary way that makes it sound universal and ethereal.
“Blond” is his second studio album that was released in August 20, 2016. The album gained a lot of fame and recognition due to the different genres such as R&B/Soul, Rap, and Alternative/Indie and the diverse featured artists that you wouldn’t think would be in the same album such as Beyonce, Kanye West , Tyler the Creator , and Kendrick Lamar. The album’s concept explores falling in and out of love, self love and hate, failed relationships, depression, and family. These themes came together to create Frank’s most vulnerable and personal project yet.

One of my favorites songs from the album is “White Ferrari” that features emotional depth about love and stability. First verse started with (Bad luck to talk on these rides Mind on the road, your dilated eyes watch the clouds float White Ferrari, had a good time (Sweet sixteen, how was I supposed to know anything?) White Ferrari symbolizes purity and the innocence of the relationship. Love was precious and valuable just like a car. Frank was reassuring his significant other in verse 3 saying, I care for you still and I will forever , That was my part of the deal, Honest we got so familiar , Spending each day of the year White Ferrari, good times In this life (Life), in this life (Life) . [Verse 4] I’m sure we’re taller in another dimension .You say we’re small and not worth the mention ,this verse used the word dimension which indicates measuring his relationship in which in a different time their love would be more meaningful and stable. The lines following show how Frank is stuck and wants to explore the world and feel free. However, his significant other thinks otherwise. You’re tired of movin’, your body’s achin’ We could vacay, there’s places to go Clearly, this isn’t all that there is. In the last verse Frank mentioned prison saying You dream of walls that hold us imprisoned It’s just a skull, least that’s what they call it and we’re free to roam which has many meanings. Frank’s lover was insecure and stuck in one place in which it made their relationship meaningless and not worth it. Frank mentions that freedom of movement, as if the prison of the skull does not exist. This concept is exactly what he is trying to convey to his lover; skulls are just bones, and in reality our thoughts are free to roam regardless of the physical boundaries.

I would highly suggest to check out Frank’s music and discover him. He’ll add a whole new and different vibe to your playlist.
