Pushing this to a greater point… If we’re, assuming that you’re a liberal and or progressive, going to regain power we’ve got to stop demonizing every person associated with Trump for doing what they’re supposed to do. Republicans begrudgingly pushed for his candidacy bc they’re supposed to. The Trump voters and mostly former supporters that I talked to detailed how they felt like Obama’s administration was a horrible eight years for their family. What swung them was hearing that Hillary was basically offering the same. They were desperate and went with change, whatever that was. Now I don’t agree with their vote, but I understand. Instead of demonizing these people, we should be selling them on our vision and embracing them.
Back on point, you’re saying that you predicted all of this from a Trump administration? That the narrative wasn’t that the scary thing was just how uncertain we were about what the administration would be?
Look I was a Bernie supporter and anytime we discuss this on base (which every base is overwhelmingly conservative) the initial reaction is that I’m going to react in the way you are. But when I say what I say, it’s like suddenly there’s a productive conversation instead of a flame war. There’s nuance. Washington works in a way in that, realistic, not many people would turn that position down unless they had a lot of power or a power play brewing.
I don’t think anybody appreciates that Spicer was so bullish in his handling of the press. But I think that you’ll see other members of that industry quickly re-welcome him with open arms.
