DevOps != Coders Learning AWS

I read an “interesting” article on TechCrunch this morning…

You can’t really scale your deployment without DevOps/SysAdmins managing the backend. This argument is just as invalid as “who needs front end developers anymore when you have sites like SquareSpace and Wordpress?”

I’m going to have to disagree on this front. If anything, DevOps is being more of a prominent role in today's dev teams because developers aren’t the same as they were 10 or even 5 years ago.

The new generation of developers are becoming more specialized and really lacking depth in all other areas of development. I know tons of code monkeys who have no idea how to manage systems operations.

“why not simply teach all developers how to utilize the infrastructure tools in the cloud?” — why not? Because you’re wasting company resources, time, and also the developers time. These are decisions Operations should be making, not developers.
