“putting yourself in the mindset of someone”
This is terrible advise. Abled developers making naieve assumptions about what a disabled person would want is what got us into this mess. The fact remains users expect to be able to increase font sizes using the user agent, not just browser zoom. How do I know this? I myself am avisually impaired web developer and have done extensive research on this topic within the accessibility community.
As an abled person, don’t put yourself in the mindset of a disabled person. You can’t. Instead engage with them, ask them questions, hire them for usability testing. And listen to them.
