I think one main reason for this fucked up status quo we have — in which the advice of the elder is totally understandable to a certain maybe large extent and all the stuff about seize the day and be yourself and bollux is only practical for a minority — lies in the circumstance that we have not followed the transition from subsistence economy to transport economics in our minds. So sad.
There is absolutely no need to force anyone to do plain labour with no further purpose than to survive. At least not in the first world. We have that, productivity is there. We only need to make that accessible. And really crazy: I believe that would improve life for everyone — also the “unfairly” treated people who own that stuff today (let’s debate legitimacy of ownership if someone wants the quotes removed).
