ASEAN stands for Association of South East Asia Nations, which means Association of Southeast Asian Nations. ASEAN members are countries in the Southeast Asia Region.

This organization was founded on August 8, 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand. There are 5 countries that became the Founding Fathers of ASEAN, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

ASEAN Logo Meaning

The meaning of the ASEAN logo does not dwell only on the forms and elements contained in the logo. However, the colors in the logo also contain meaning and significance.

Color

As we know there are 4 colors in the ASEAN logo, namely, red, white, yellow and blue. Blue: the color blue symbolizes peace and stability. Red: the color red symbolizes courage and dynamism. White: white color symbolizes purity. Yellow: yellow color symbolizes prosperity.

ASEAN Logo Symbol Meaning

In addition to the colors in the logo, there are symbols that reflect certain meanings and meanings. As we know, in the ASEAN logo there is a circle symbol and a bunch of rice.

The meaning of the circle in the ASEAN logo symbolizes unity. While a bunch of rice symbolizes prosperity, prosperity, fertility, and wealth which are the hopes of these ASEAN countries. The number of 10 rice stalks tied together symbolizes the number of countries that are members of this organization that are bound by unity and solidarity.

The Purpose of the Establishment of ASEAN

As stated in the ASEAN Declaration, the objectives of the establishment of ASEAN are as follows:

  1. Accelerate economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region through joint efforts in the spirit of equality and partnership in order to strengthen the foundations for a prosperous and peaceful society of Southeast Asian Nations;
    2. To promote regional peace and stability through respect for justice and the rule of law in relations between countries in the region and adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter;
    3. To promote active cooperation and mutual assistance in matters of common interest in the economic, social, cultural, technical, scientific and administrative fields;
    4. Mutual assistance in the form of training and research facilities in the fields of education, profession, technical and administration;
    5. To cooperate more effectively for the greater utilization of their agriculture and industry, the expansion of their trade, including the study of issues of international commodity trade, the improvement of their transport and communication facilities and the improvement of the living standards of their peoples;
    6. To promote Southeast Asian studies; and
    7. To maintain close and beneficial cooperation with existing international and regional organizations with common goals and objectives, and explore all avenues for closer cooperation among themselves
