Wow! What a week! This class has been flying by and I am excited about my own personal growth through this journey. I feel that my creative brain was stretched this week through the many projects and critiques that I chose. Some of my favorite work other classmates completed this week was:

The social fiction story told by Paloma.

Weekly Critique:

This week, I chose to critique, “A World without Oil”. This would be something I would like to share with my students to bring more global awareness into the classroom. My students would like this because they would be playing a game. Not just any game. A reality game. This would allow for more buy in because they would be playing with an idea that could eventually turn into reality in the future.

“ World without Oil” is a collaborative simulation of an oil shortage. It’s a project that engaged people from all around the world. There were over 60,000 participants. World Without Oil provided a context for participants to play, by asking them to imagine what would happen in their local community if the world ran out of oil. Participants contributed through digital storytelling.

This week, a classmate and I also decided to dialog a critique so we both could check that off our score cards. We chose to dialog the Autobiography of Jane Eyre. Check it out!

Daily Create:

I enjoyed doing the robot daily create. I learned how to program a robot to dance! This would be something my students would also enjoy when I am introducing coding to them.

Assignments:

Hack the News

I hacked the news! This was a fun project to complete and would be fun for my students to remix a news website as well. I figured out how to hack the news by reading a tutorial. I added x-ray goggles to my bookmarks bar and chose to remix CNN from a day in the future.

This project was a challenge for me! I spent a ton of time trying to figure out how to change out an image. After reading several of tutorials, I finally figured out how to code it correctly! Check it out! I’m going to do this with my students and see if they notice that the article is fake. This will be a good lesson on credible websites.

Instagram Story

I am new to Instagram. Yes, I know. Shocking! I’ve been wanting to sign up for an Instagram account and this project gave me a good opportunity to get started. I wanted to play with Insta grid to tell the story of my hike up Longs Peak. I had some problems getting started. First, my phone needed updated in order to get Instagram. I have around 1,600 pictures on my phone and tried to download them to my husbands computer. They weren’t downloading! I spent about 30 minutes trying to resolve this problem before I said that I will try another day. So, I used my husbands (updated) phone to get started. I used Insta grid to create a picture grid of my photos that I would be using. I ran into another problem. I couldn’t figure out how to get my picture grid to work on Instagram. I watched a Youtube tutorial and figured it out! Thank goodness for Youtube. I’ve used it many of times over the course of the summer to figure out how to use different media tools. I feel that my project turned out great and learned how to use Instagram and Insta grid. I can check social off of my score card! Check out my Instagram account.

Hiking in early morning is the most rewarding.
Go as long as you can, then take another step.
Finding the right route, is “key”.
Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.

Dialog & Soliloquy

When thinking about dialog & soliloquy, I would define digital dialog as having a conversation with another individual through the use of multimedia. Digital Campfires come to mind when thinking about digital dialog. I would define soliloquy as expressing ones individual thoughts alone. Both of these platforms fit in nicely with the landscape of digital storytelling & learning because there are many different ways that peoples’ stories can be told through the use of multimedia. Individuals can communicate their feelings and personal experiences through a variety of digital platforms whether it be through the use of dialog or soliloquy.

Updated Score Card:

Audio-Chase a phrase & interview with colleague; Video-30 second story, Sketch note & classmate remix; Graphic-Vintage poster & understanding comics; Web-10 ways & hack the news; Social-twitter essay & Instagram story ; Dialog-Interview with classmate & critique
