Wait — so what’s being relayed here is that a white female director and a white male screenwriter somehow failed to convey that the black characters in this film have any sort of “political imagination,” or emotional lives whatsoever, and are simply portrayed by the creative duo as victims of white political and societal corruption?

I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise.
