“This is standard Clintonite entitlement. What audacity that Bernie challenged Clinton’s right to the nomination! Instead of seeing the primary as an exercise that challenges the winner it is seen as making the winner weaker.

“Funny how it didn’t work out that way for Obama in 2008 against Clinton, just for Clinton in 2016 against Sanders.”

Or, for that matter, for Bill Clinton, who had to beat an entire field of really strong candidates in 1992. Went on to become president. And does this work with Republicans? Trump had to defeat 18 other candidates to become the nominee. Bush Jr. beat something like 9 or 10 challengers in 2000.

“One might actually come to the conclusion that the weaker general election candidate ‘won’ the D primary in 2016. One might logically surmise that if Clinton and the DNC hadn’t colluded and cheated, the candidate that drew the largest crowds of all candidates ((D) and (R)) and brought out the most new voters would have won the presidency.”

And that speculation has the benefit of having all of the available data on its side.
