The Past, Present, and Future

I remember the day Petey chose us as his family. I had just turned four. Despite all of the hyper puppies squirming and wiggling for attention, he sat calmly like a boat resting in smooth waters. I knew right away that Petey was soon to be the newest member of my family. On the car ride home I cradled him in my arms, stroking his soft hair which was like silk to the touch, until it was someone else’s turn to hold him. As him and I both grew older and bigger we would constantly go on walks to the park or hiking in the unknown, exploring the serene nature around us. As him and I both grew I grew taller and more slender, Petey’s hair slowly transitioned from silky soft to wiry like a brush used for washing dishes; however, the soft hair on his head still remained. As him and I both grew we continued to go on strolls, experiencing and learning new untried information. On rainy days my siblings and I would arrive home with a bucket of slimy earthworms scavenged from the sidewalk, our jeans soaked and water sloshing around in our rain boots, and trotting at our heels Petey would come along, streaked with mud, the rest of his snow white hair matching the brown patch around his left eye. I always loved exploring the vibrant nature around me and alongside me would be my companion Petey.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed so many of the things I have done, completed, and achieved with this bike. This bike is my escape from all the things going on at home and at school. There is nothing better than bombing down a hill, the wind rushing past your face at what seems like 100 miles per hour, the bicycle chain replicating the sound of a fishing rod, and the pure joy and excitement it brings. This is my tool for exploration and excitement. I can take my bike anywhere and do anything with it. Something I really enjoy is cleaning my bike; I have the opportunity to take it apart, learn how it works and admire the craftmanship. The smooth black and silver carbon fiber frame is cool to the touch and shimmers in the sunlight. The huge twenty nine-inch tires overcome any rock daring to block my path on the trail, the extra wide handlebars offering smoother control and dominance. The snow white Foundry logo protrudes on the front of the frame, adding contrast to the mostly dark frame, giving the bike a refined and modern look. Finding new places and riding new trails is what brings me my satisfaction. I love to explore new trails even if I don’t know where it goes or what it leads to but I always have a good time, and if I fall I get back up and keep riding.

Reading is something I’ve done all of my life. When I was little I remember reading BOB books, which were little ten-page books about a man named Bob. What satisfaction those little books would bring me even though they were so small and simple! Since then I have progressed in my reading, diving into the Percy Jackson series and the Inheritance Cycle, opening up new worlds in my imagination and exploring the limits of what is possible, all in my head. Reading is a combination of many things such as exploration, imagination, fun, and excitement. I often have the ability to get lost in a book and read for hours on end. Even though I will probably not be mountain biking when I am older, I will still be able to read and explore through my imagination. So many new possibilities are opened up when reading and I will often push the boundaries of my mind and its capacities. Although finishing a book is often disappointing because I want it to go on longer, it is so satisfying to turn the lightly textured page, anticipating what is going to come next, until it ends. I want to always be exploring and learning new things in my life because of all the endless possibilities.
