We had an active anti-war movement in the us, Caitlin. It was during the war against Vietnam. But, it was mostly staffed by young draft eligible men, who did not want to sacrifice their live for nothing. Once the powers that be got the picture, they scrapped the draft, and the active, vigorous anti war movement died.
It’s telling that the big women’s march against Trump was about abortion (which, in its own way is pro-killing), and completely ignored the US’s crimes against humanity in the Middle East and elsewhere. It seems that we in the US organize around issues that personally threaten or inconvenience us, and the hell with the rest of the world.
Perhaps in 20–30 years we can get a vibrant movement going around climate issues, if, by that time, it’s not already too late.
Sorry to be so negative, but I’m looking at matters from my 81 years as a perceptive activist. From that viewpoint, Caitlin, I very much look forward to and enjoy your writing. You probably, however, should clean up the language a bit, so that you do not offend those who care about such things.
