Three decades into her career, Beyoncé has wowed from albums, tours and being the pop culture icon that she is. With her recent Renaissance Tour this has been her most impactful and ambitious tour to date.

The Renaissance tour ended Oct. 1, 2023 in Kansas City and quickly after the trailer Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé was released. The film is more than a concert film, it takes you behind the scenes of how the tour came to be. There is a deeper meaning of how this tour was a celebration of LGBT community and ballroom culture.

The film provides a rare glimpse of Beyoncé’s personal life written and directed by her. You can tell the film is a love letter to the fans and her Uncle Johnny who passed away.

“My ultimate goal,” Beyonce Said. “is to create a space where everyone is free and no one is judged, and everyone can be like their childlike selves, their sexiest selves. They can all be on that stage. They are the vision. They are a new beginning. That’s what Renaissance is about.”

Throughout the film, she spoke about rebirth and becoming a new beast and what Renaissance meant for her. The celebration of dance music was a constant theme that was shown throughout the film. She credited her Uncle Johnny who introduced her to the genre of music.

Tina Knowles spoke about how her brother, Uncle Johnny, would be proud of the tour and how seeing people in the crowd of each show being who they are was something she wished her brother had the chance to experience.

Behind the scenes of the film, you see how much of a hands -on mother she is with her children. Especially with her youngest twins Rumi and Sir; she makes sure her kids get quality time with her throughout the tour. The twins were constantly with her in the quick change room, rehearsal and at the end of the show.

Beyoncé’s oldest daughter is the real star of the film. Blue Ivy is a mini version of her mother and throughout the film you see that they are each other’s biggest fans.Blue captured every moment she was on screen, she would make the audience brighten up.

The topic of her wanting to perform with her mom on stage was spoken about throughout the film but her mother was very hesitant about her getting on stage.

She didn’t think it was appropriate for her to perform on this type of tour but she eventually allowed her to perform with her. Blue did face a lot of social media backlash from people on the internet about her first time performing on the tour, but that made her want to improve and strive to prove everyone wrong.

Beyoncé made sure to give love to Kevin JZ Prodigy, a respected communicator in the ballroom community. Kevin served as the MC of the tour, his voice was everywhere from the beginning to the tour to the end.

Beyoncé spoke about her physical health and when she had knee surgery from an injury from her “I Am… World Tour” nearly 13 years ago. She got into it about how she kept performing on her knee until it just gave out to her. She had surgery before the tour started and went through a very quick and extensive rehab so she could perform.

Renaissance isn’t just an album or tour, it’s a new way of living for her. There’s Beyoncé the powerhouse performer, then there’s Beyoncé the mother, sister and friend. As she enters a new time in her life where she doesn’t care about pleasing the masses, she credits the BeyHive for always having her back and being there. “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” shows why she is who she is she’s stated in the I’m That Girl.
