Open your eyes!

A thought struck me yesterday, that will change the way I live my life forever.

If you live on a busy road, you’ll be used to the traffic going by every minute of the day. If you’ve always had a clock in your bedroom, you’ll never notice it unless you pause and specifically listen. But why is that? Your brain gets so used to something (and almost takes it for granted, if you like) that it shuts it out. Completely ignores it.

And why is this baby staring so intently at a fishtank? All the adults just carry on walking by, as if to say “nothing here, let’s move on”.

The baby here, is the metaphorical entrepreneur. The person who sees the world a little differently—a playground for curiosity, intelligence and a haven of incredible ideas. It’s easy to fall back into the trap of forgetting the real beauty of the world, but if we all opened our eyes a little and stopped taking everything so for granted, perhaps this world would be an even better (or at least happier) place.

“If you go back back a few hundred years, what we take for granted today would seem like magic — being able to talk to people over long distances, to transmit images, flying, accessing vast amounts of data like an oracle. These are all things that would have been considered magic a few hundred years ago.”—Elon Musk
