This truth in your key account management may challenge you

Have you ever thought about why you’re in Key Account Management. Why this job over any job in the world? Why deal with all the hassle of managing multiple stakeholders, convincing your business to act in the interests of the customer, manage the disappointment of projects gone bad.

Nothing like a post to brighten your day :)

My purpose here is not to make you question being a key account manager or any role of person that might be reading this. It’s to bring you into this truth.

Why you show up matters!

Now I truly believe that key account management is the most unique and distinct sales role on the planet despite the confusing job descriptions out there. What you do is far different and in some ways more challenging with the level of trust held in your hands.

Can you handle the truth that the reason you show up might be limiting your ability to produce greater and better results.

Whether your WHY is your family, you need a job and it fits your skill set, you’re paying off debt, working towards your dream holiday, you want to fund the car you’ve always wanted or you genuinely want to make a difference in the company you work for.

The truth is how you show up, your capacity to stretch beyond our limits, the way you think about your results and relationships is greatly affected by WHY you show up.

It’s the this WHY that makes the what you do so much more powerful and effective. None of the reasons we show up I’ve listed are wrong they’re simply facts that remain what they are. One of the distinct and consistent traits I found when speaking with super successful account managers, key account managers, sales directors and consultants is this. They had resolute goals and a clear why for showing up to work.

For some it was the money and they knew what needed to happen to get it. Others it was wanting to be an influence and create an impact and as a result everything they wanted eventually came.

The question is what is your truth? Once you acknowledge it you can assess whether it limits your capacity to deliver beyond what it is or propels you to something greater. Sometimes with the best of intentions we can block our opportunity to be inspired. The awesome gift you have as a human is you can challenge it, change it or if it serves you show up embracing it and get focused on the results you want.

Activity: Today ask yourself this one question. What personal and professional goals am i’m showing up to accomplish? write it down and see where your themes are. Look at them objectively and then ask are these limiting my ability to achieve better and greater results or are these extending my capacity to achieve better and greater results?
