Tesla Autopilot Review: Bikers will die

Sorry, but there is a lot of misinformation here:

B [DOOR HANDLES THAT RECEDE INTO THE FRAME] — Besides being the coolest door handles on any car today, they are spring loaded and completely safe. I have closed them on my hand several times to show people there is a 0% chance of ever being injured or even scratched by the handle. The handle comes right back out, a baby couldn’t be hurt by them. You should have done some testing before making this comment.

B [CURVES] — Agree, but that is one of the benefits of a car that gets better over time. Already in June a revised system will make it much more smooth in acceleration and curves. Software improvements to Autopilot are coming every two weeks.

C [GIANT TOUCHSCREEN] — You should never, ever have to turn off the car. The car goes to sleep on its own and is ready to drive when you sit down. The only reason is if you are unfamiliar with how the car operates and never read the manual or received any sort of instruction whatsoever. They have a UI team from Apple, I don’t think you are going to get better than that. After a couple weeks with the touchscreen, you will never want traditional controls again.

F [SELF-LOCKING FEATURE] — we stepped out of the car to take a photo and this super capable intelligent car locked us out! FIX THIS BUG!

Really? The only bug in this case is lack of common sense. 1.) There is no reason to take the key out of your pocket or purse. Would you leave a key in a gas car while it is running and go out and take a photo? 2.) You can use any smartphone (which you were holding) to lock/unclock the car or drive it without a key. If you were able to call a friend you should have also been able to unlock the car.

However, the biggest misconception is the title: “Tesla Autopilot Review: Bikers will die”

How many bikers have died due to autopilot so far? 0

How many bikers die due to diver mistakes on a daily basis? a ton

As a PhD, you should recognize you are making an uninformed statement based on no hard data. In fact, by spreading misinformation about safety, you could be contributing to more bikers dying. Autopilot is already twice as safe as a human driver and will eventually become safer around bikers than you could ever be in a hundred lifetimes. The sooner we move to autonomous driving, the better off all people will be — so your clickbait title is not only disingenuous, but it is dangerous.
