“Boom boom!” The sounds roar again, deafening as they come.
“Boom boom!” Our dwelling, our home, my very bones shake.
“Boom boom!” When will it stop? The sounds, the shaking, the fear?
Then, a light in the dark. A crack in the seam that allows food, water, and love in.
Her smell hits me first, then I see her face. Calming sounds now. Comfort much needed, now provided.
The booms continue, unceasingly. But she is here with me, offering a gentle hand and a gentle voice to ease the fear.
The booms fade away as eyelids, heavy with worry and weariness, finally close. Another day is coming, with her by my side.
