Traffic Zen

Getting stuck in traffic is a way of life

Nothing makes this fact more evident then traveling between two or three major metropolitan areas in a single day. But at least on a recent trip, I had the pleasure of my wife’s company to make the time spent motionless in a car more bearable.

We got to talking about the phenomenon known as “traffic,” and she mentioned how her mom has begun thinking of it.

She has started spending a bit of time stuck in traffic in a kind of meditative state. Traffic will flow as it does, and there is absolutely nothing an individual driver can do to make it speed up.

This state of “traffic zen,” if perhaps a slight misuse of the word, has proved quite beneficial to my mother-in-law. I’ll be sure to keep it in mind the next time traffic grinds to a halt.
