In pursuit of balance…
I am a father of 5 wonderful children and a husband. I married my high school sweetheart and love my kids and my wife more than anything.
I’m a VC and entrepreneur. I’m a co-founder and partner of Real Ventures, a seed fund that supports passionate entrepreneurs looking to change the world and the communities in which they thrive. That’s why we run the Founderfuel accelerator program and were the instigators of the Notman House community project. I love working with entrepreneurs. It is my passion. Entrepreneurs are the driving force of our society and communities. Being an entrepreneur is hard. Having been one myself helps me empathize with the entrepreneurs I meet and work with. I meet every entrepreneur I can.
I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, one of best cities in the world. I love Montreal for many reasons. It is diverse, international, pro startups and bilingual. It has its own local music, TV, movie and art scene. You can’t find a bad restaurant in Montreal. The people here are friendly and helpful. Montreal is a great place to raise a family.
I’m French Canadian, and as such, speak French at home.
I try to exercise daily. I look at it as personal time. I sometimes play ice hockey, which I played in College. I started swimming in 2008 and did the 10K traversee du lac megantic in 2009. I spend a lot of time riding the bike while catching up on industry news and email. I started running again and I see triathlons in my future.
I love music and food. I cook, do the dishes and do the groceries. I also spend a lot of time driving my kids around.
I studied Physics at Middlebury College where I also learned English, so you’ll have to bear with me.
I believe in generosity, fairness, hard work, making the world a better place, and providing more to the world and the people I interact with than I take back. I call this the net positive principle. I try to raise my kids this way, but it’s not easy. If every human being lived this way, the world would be a much better place. I try to spend most of my time with people who abide by this principle, but they’re not easy to find.
I believe that with the constant evolution of technologies in communications, computing power, user interfaces, A.I., robotics, virtual reality, mobility, and the application of these technologies to other fields, we are likely to experience in our lifetime disruptive changes to government, cities, energy, food, healthcare, transportation, age expectancy, education and human happiness on a global scale. If we work together, there is no reason why every human being cannot have the same access to these resources. We are one tribe after all.
I have yet to find balance in my life, but I’m working on it.
