I spent a week in Saariselka in 2014 and it was one of the best weeks of my life. We went for a reindeer sleigh ride, dogsledding, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ate smoked reindeer sausage with the native Sami people, and took a day to drive up to Bugoynes, Norway where I held a live king crab and jumped into the Arctic Ocean.

Along with the adventure aspect, Saariselka provides opportunity for romantic sessions in the sauna and in little igloos with glass ceilings for viewing the northern lights while sharing body heat on a bed covered with reindeer pelts.

I also won a karaoke contest by singing Mambo №5 after drinking a pint of jaloviina at the hotel in town.
