The corruption of modern academic medicine — How your doctor was bought

A brave position to take; I always appreciate a view on some profession from the inside. One of my sons just graduated as an MD and is now a resident in a Canadian hospital. I’ll make sure he sees this article!

I’ve always thought that a lot of professions, and doctors as the best example, behave in an arrogant manner towards those they supposedly serve. I don’t trust a mechanic who won’t talk to me about the problems with my car and I don’t trust a doctor who won’t talk to me about the problems in my body. I don’t expect them to believe everything I say; I’m not a mechanic or a medical doctor, after all, so my observations may be suspect or biased. But I do expect them to pay attention and consider whatever I say as potential evidence in the search for answers / solutions.
