Diversity is valuing skin tone over merit.
Michael Robertson

Mob pressure from white folks like us has historically been intense and at times violent. It’s been easier to feign agreement with the white mob’s own version of political correctness instead of standing in road and trying to stop the steamrolling of folks who feign belief in merit but actually follow historical precedent and just hire folks who look like themselves. THAT sort of old-fashioned steam-rolling is a perfect way to reduce the effectiveness and profitability of an organization in an increasingly diverse world.
