This is all about PROFITS. I suspect removing visitors to “improve” the experience is not the whole story and you are being disingenuous with your members. It is all about MONEY for OKCupid. You say in your email informing members of your visitor feature decision that you believe that “likes” are a better indicator of a member’s interest in another member and seem to be implying that members should just use that feature as an alternative to visiting to express some interest. What you fail to point out is that seeing “likes” is an A-List feature that must be paid for. So you are now forcing members to pay for your upgraded service to have any indication that another member is interested in them short of receiving an email from that member.
I think is was a very poor decision for OKCupid to remove the visitors feature. I think the visitor function is a very good way to see who is intrigued enough by your profile to check you out and is an indicator of interest.
Bravo, OKCupid and IAC, you have ruined a great service by pushing it down the road to just becoming like Match where you can’t really do anything without paying. I get that you are a business and shareholders demand more profits, but you make these moves at the expense of losing customers. Just depend on ad revenue and stop destroying what was once a great website.
