I’m definitely grateful for the gifts and the privilege I have. The flip side, of course, is that choices have been made and doggedly pursued. We all have the freedom to choose our own paths. Not all paths are equal in difficulty, but my experience is that the vast majority of people are in the life they have chosen and that they continue to actively choose it. Just as I continue to actively choose mine. Most people in the first world have more options than they admit to and the majority of them will not choose to exercise them. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t there. And it doesn’t mean there is not a choice happening at every stage. I didn’t start with a silver spoon. I started in a one room cabin off the grid in the forest. I am not independently wealthy. I work. Like every other person. I’ve just made some different choices. They aren’t better or worse than anyone else’s. But every single one of us is making a choice, in every moment. What I’m advocating for is people taking control of their lives with both hands, living from a place of power and actively making the choices that will build the life they most want. It can be done.
