I’m glad you’re around to make what should be a very obvious point which no one else seems capable of making in the American media: you can dislike or like a politician, but that shouldn’t color your evaluation of specific actions. It’s so toxic these days that saying you’re glad the world isn’t going to war over Syria makes you a traitor.
I went on Twitter and found countless “Trump is handing over the US to Putin” tweets with the loopiest ‘logic’ I’ve seen; this event has driven the hate-filled anti-Trump folks NUTS. One of the first was from a ‘conservative Republican’ who wrote all about the Putin/Trump meeting based on nothing more than Tillerson’s quick summary of a few lines, not even on the actual reports of the agreements.
Anyone interested in how the media works need only look at the “Breaking Russia Conspiracy News” about Kushner meeting with a Russian representative for half an hour. No one ever seems to wonder about Hillary having contact with Russians, but since we just know Trump is a Putin agent…well, why go on? If you assume something for a fact and then go looking for the evidence, you’re not behaving in a rational manner.
As I say on a daily basis, you can continue to hate Trump all you like (as Caitlin seems to), but what kind of lunatic is mad because we’re cooperating with the other world power? I’ve never — EVER — heard democrats be angry about working with Russia until the day after Trump beat Hillary. Pure coincidence, I’m sure. (And it’s also NOT just neo-cons who’re doing this, but whatever.)
