When news broke about Aaron Rodgers joining an up-and-coming Jets franchise, the football world went into a frenzy. The Jets finally got their quarterback, the Jets are back, and the season can’t come fast enough. These are the exact sentiments of Jets fans everywhere. But no one, not even the football gods could’ve predicted what would happen during the Jet’s first drive of the 2023–24 NFL season.

The unthinkable happened. Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon and expected to miss the remainder of the NFL season. We all know Rodgers is one of the fiercest competitors ever, he wants to play, but at age 39, he’s old, by football standards.

I was surprised to hear news about Rodgers trying to make a possible return. I’m thinking like, how is this possible?

Well, Rodgers underwent an innovative new procedure. It’s referred to as a speed bridge, performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, one of the go-to surgeons in all sports.

“Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed a procedure where he placed an internal brace called a “speed bridge” on Rodgers’ left Achilles. This new process in theory can have an athlete back in four months. A speed bridge does not guarantee a speedy recovery, but it does strengthen the repair itself” (Dajani & Podell, 2023).
