Thank you for an interesting perspective on the “state” of data in many companies. I find myself in agreement with you, especially regarding political, managemental and cultural approaches to the analysis of all of the data. Many companies are not agile enough (or willing) to change their critical business processes to include IT people (whom they may consider as business process deficient), let alone revamp their data in ways that may eliminate their favorite “key” measurements based on the input from data “scientists”. All of this makes it clear that running a business in today’s technology oriented environment may require major shifts in management and cooperation between areas that have been traditionally more distant.
