I will respond — with considerably less logorrhea.

Taxation is, alas, necessary in order to sustain a nation and provide services we recognize as necessary toward the common weal. And I do not know of any means of taxation that could be more equitable than one based on income.

If that seems to be a form of captivity (above) then I suggest an alternative. It is possible to live without the benefits of civilization — again, funded through taxation — if one chooses to inhabit a hut in the wilderness, an existence à la Unabomber. Or found a cult, and renounce society altogether.

If that is less than palatable, we’ll just have to contribute — as is only fair if we are to continue enjoying a standard of living above troglodytism.
