I will be honest. I love Workflowy so much that I get pretty horrified with this feature announcement. Workflowy is blazing fast, it feels awesome, I’m so afraid it turns into something else. Sorry if I seem pessimist, I hope I am being so.
I have this inner urge to “see” knowledge and information in front of me, something to help me think and annotate.
For many years I’d been searching for a tool to give me that closer relationship with information and my brain, these are some of the attempts:
- Note taking: Evernote, Quip, Google Docs, Pages, Notational Velocity…
- To-do list: Todoist, Wunderlist, Any.do... so many others!
- Mindmap: Mindmeister, the Tony Buzan one…
Some of them I used for months or years, but they would gradually get cluttered to the point I would lose myself in my own info and not make sense of it anymore. I would get distracted into how to organize, format and colorise things. I ended up focused on those systems and not immersed in the information itself. They didn’t feel right.
The only tool I’ve found to actually be better than pencil and paper (or just notepad) for annotation is… Workflowy!
So, I’m sorry, but I really don’t see why adding dates and reminders.
My humble opinion:
Workflowy is not a to-do app - TeuxDeux is a brilliant to-do app, but it is a different kind of tool.
Workflowy is a thinking app. It’s sort of like a mind map, but one that actually works and not those messy diagrams.
Whatever comes out of this feature, I just hope it won’t change a bit the spirit and purpose of this tool.
Also, I would suggest you guys to check if these requests come from people that use Workflowy on a daily basis and have been using for at least months.
Anyways, sorry for such a long comment and thanks for this amazing tool.
