A Semblance of Quiet

Bob doesn’t say anything for a bit, I would say that he is quiet except that it’s never quiet for me unless I’m alone, or I have my helmet on.

How long will he be ok for? How long was it before it started, a few months maybe, it wasn’t sudden though, how will I know? And what happens if she does that to someone without powers?

“Did she even know about your powers?” I ask.

“I don’t know, there were signs, things she should have seen but… she was drunk a lot, I think she… I don’t know. I don’t think she knew how bad it got.” I’m tossed into a memory (much more gently this time) lying on the bed, feeling alone, not wanting to touch the person lying next to me. She wakes, I stay still. She touches the exact spot on my arm. The Exact Spot. I force myself to breath slowly, try not to flinch. The scar will have healed overnight, she’s probably wondering why it’s not there. I can still feel it. Not pain, but a memory of it. She pokes the spot with a finger, then gently brushes her fingers over it as though she’s
