Why working for Twitter can be the best decision of my life

Entrepreneur, mentor, and investor. This is what I want.

Now, let’s talk about who I am and why working for Twitter can be the best decision of my life.

Before that let me ask you something.

When you applied for a job at Twitter, Were you sure you were receiving an interview call from them?

Well, nobody knows that at the time; however, there you are. You tried and you got the job. Now you are working with the most talented people around the world.

That means you are one of them, right?

I’m probably thinking the same thing that you thought that day when you applied …

Twitter just hire the smartest people of the globe. Is not going to be easy for me get this job.

But, as you tried and finally achieved your goal, I also want to do this.

So, I´m going to tell you why Twitter should hire me as a Brand Strategist in Bogota. Let´s get started!

My story

Two years and a half ago when I was working for Groupon as a Planner. I arrived to the office thinking about my job. The previous night, I realized that I wasn’t happy at the coupon’s company.

So I started asking myself what should I do to change that.

A few hours later, I thought it would be good for me to start thinking about my future. What I want to be in 5 or 10 years? Was my firts question. After a couple of days I found an answer. An answer which changed my life:

I wanted to be an entrepreneur.

The American Dream

I began reading about how to be an entrepreneur. I found that the best entrepreneurs around the world have been living in one specific place, San Francisco. So, I began thinking how to get there.

I talked to many people looking for their advice; however, all of them told me the same thing:

“San Francisco? Do you know San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities in United States?”

I didn’t listen. I quit my job and I took all my savings to visit the Golden Gate Bridge city. I started to study English and learn more about Online Marketing at different events.

But, not everything went as I wanted.

After quitting my job my family went into an economic crisis. I couldn’t leave them, they needed me at the moment.

I started looking for a job in Colombia; however, I didn’t find one.

I decided to start working as a freelance, helping companies get customers online. This way, I learned how to design a website using Wordpress and Photoshop and how to create landing pages which convert visitors into leads — here is the link of a customer: Yale Servisseg Ltda — .

After one year doing different things, online and offline; I realized that I had seller skills, especially when I used tools like Powerpoint, Keynote, or Prezi in business meetings.

In December 2014, I flew to San Francisco. The economic situation of my family had improved so I took a plane to begin my adventure.

At the beginning, it was not easy for me to survive, but I could find a place to live after a couple of days. During my stay in the world’s tech hub I met many people, also, I studied English and attended to a lot of meetups about marketing and entrepreneurship at different startups over there.

But, I could never attend to an event on Twitter.

Why?

Most of them were always full. So, maybe you are thinking why I´m telling this story to you in a cover letter, right?

Well, those events taught me something special about entrepreneurship that I want to share with you.

Me at the Golden Gate Bridge

The best and the easiest way to become a successful entrepreneur is working with the best people. Those ones who can help you reach your full potential. Those ones who in a few days can teach you something that would take you years to learn. Those ones that you want to work in the future creating the next big startup or just hire them.

That ideas someone, who also couldn’t enter to the Twitter’s event that day but had already attended several of them, taught me.

He told me:

“That event is not full just because is Twitter. That event is full because the things that you can learn inside, the failures and successes that you can avoid or replicate, and the culture that you find there, is difficult to find anywhere else”

After that words, I realized that I’m just not want to be part of those meetups, I wanted to be the person who answer people’s doubts.

However, I realized that to be that person I should go back to my country due to my visa status don’t allowed me to work in United States and the process to change that would be so long.

So, why I want to be part of Twitter?

Because I want to be a better storyteller, an incredible seller, a person who get people’s attention designing amazing proposals and someone recognized by people for his results and the way to get things done and expertise in Online Marketing.

I’m sure I can be that person helping Twitter grow around the world.

Do you think I’m ready or not?
