Tennis players past 30 years of age dominate the circuit. Olympic medalist swimmers get older each year. The last champions league final had the oldest players in average of the history.

“Three of the Wimbledon players in quarterfinals in 2007 are also favorites this year: Djokovic, Federer and Nadal. All three are over 30 years old. But the trend is not only because of them. At the WTA circuit (women tennis) in 2003 there were 10 players over 30 in the top 100. Today there are 41. The ATP circuit has similar numbers. The top five players are 30 years or older.

World and Olympic swimming champions are also getting older: between the three Olympic Games of the 80s there were only two medalists of 24 years or more, whereas only at the 2012 Olympic Games there were 20. The last final of the soccer Champions League between Real Madrid and Juventus was “the oldest” Champions final of history, bordering 30 years on average. Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi are the best paid players on the planet and have contracts with their clubs until the age of 36 and 34. Simone Biles won Olympic gold in gymnastics at age 19, the highest in 28 years.

Technology, materials, diet, preparation, injury prevention, money, staff are some factors that have lengthened the careers of the best in the world. Although each sport is different, coaches, athletes and scientists agree that these are the main reasons.” (Kiko Llaneras

Injury prevention is a key part on an athletes life. Professional athletes can hire physical therapist or trainers to work on injury prevention. Starting this month average athletes or junior players have a way to work like professional athletes. Juan Reque recently launched his PreventOK program which combines stretching, mobility, strengthening and functional training exercises.

In this unique online program you will receive personalized exercise videos, with training specifically tailored to you and the demands of your sport. You will be able to see these exercises on your smart phone or tablet and do them at home at your own pace.
