August 23, 2003 — Charles Taylor, having laid waste to Liberia, has been trying to set the record straight about who persuaded him to surrender his Presidency and go into exile in Nigeria. “I will say that 99% of [the credit] goes to Dr. K. A. Paul alone,” he wrote on August 16th, in a letter to the Times. Since Taylor was on the verge of losing a civil war, and three African heads of state went to Liberia to usher him out of the country-and since President Bush made his exit a precondition of American peacekeeping…
When the historic Friars Club of New York City hired Michael Gyure as executive director, the iconic institution was, for lack of a better term, tired. The average age of members was increasing, and the celebrity status of members who used to fill the chairs of its historic Frank Sinatra room for roasts was waning. But under Gyure’s guidance, the club looks to implement the new and exciting changes necessary to embrace the next generation of young professionals, celebrities, and entertainers. …

Nablus — Area near Joseph’s Tomb Unless one takes a personal, honest, up-close look at Samaria, it will remain an occupied territory; the haven of fringe settlers trying to displace Palestinians and stymie the peace process. That is unless you actually go there and see the region up close, talk to the people who live there and understand the size, demography and conditions the people live with. Is it a perfect situation? By no means; but is it the obstacle to peace and the bane of the Palestinian existence…

To some, this story may seem to be getting old. Israel’s Operation Pillar of Defense, its action to defend its citizens from the rockets being fired by Hamas in Gaza, concluded over one month ago; the public and media is already onto new topics of the day. Facts and fictions of that period are no longer being discussed, as Israeli citizens have elections to focus on, media has housing being built in Judea and Samaria to write about and Americans are focused on the unspeakable crime committed in Connecticut…

Something interesting occurred on Monday when a good friend of mine had the fortune of being interviewed on Fox News about his business. When we were younger, Jonathan Greenstein and I tore up the roads of Sullivan County and had a lot of fun, caused some trouble, and served food to the summer vacationers in the hotels and bungalow communities off New York State’s Routes 42, 52 and 17.
Some tales are better left to memory; others go down better after a few drinks with good friends, but no…

The battlefield in Gaza has six more dead now. On Tuesday, a witness reported seeing masked gunmen publicly shoot six Palestinians who were suspected to have collaborated with Israel. A reporter from the Associated Press saw a mob surrounding five of the bloody bodies after the execution.
Crying “Spy! Spy!” people; within the mob were stomping and spitting on the dead. One of the alleged spies was tied to the back of a motorcycle and dragged through the streets as a warning to anyone else considering talking to Israel…

The election season is becoming an all out brawl between the candidates; each one is trying to paint a picture of the better America he will create in less than four years. Something is wrong with that philosophy, but it is hard to really put your finger on it after being indoctrinated with the short-term fix for so long. …

Lance Armstrong, seven time winner of the Tour De France bicycle race fell from grace recently, when he failed to contest accusations of taking illegal performance drugs following an investigation by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. The shockwaves that poured through the sports world were loud and harsh, because Armstrong is not merely a sports hero to many. He is known for his remarkable two-wheeling athletic accomplishments, but he is best known and loved for the fact that he did it while battling and surviving cancer. …
The carnage caused by 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs on Sunday, killing 26 people is nothing short of unspeakable. With the exception of terrorism, what could cause someone to do something like this? We will hear about his marriage gone bad, his dishonorable discharge, a grievance with his former in-laws, and other matters that may have led to Kelley’s decision.
Similarly, Dylann Roof, who killed nine in the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina, was incensed that the United States is racially and religiously integrated, and that black people and…
