This UNITARY System? … kolewerk!!!

This ridiculous idea that Nigeria should remain united irrespective of the increasing poverty, social progress and development is STUPID!

President Buhari is back in Nigeria, as we are being told to resume fully his work that he asked for in 2015. Whether this is for another few weeks before he goes back to see his doctors remain to be seen. I do not think we should spend time discussing that as my generation and a lot of others are now doing with the hashtag #BabaOyoyo. Our debates should be about how to take this country from point A forward to point B.

Now, President Buhari and his folks promised a whole different Nigeria in 2015 when he came in. For those who deny that he himself made those promises of providing 3,000,000 jobs for example when the statistics of 1,300,000 jobs was presented, we at least agree that he himself promised to work on a three-pillared manifesto — Economy, Security and Anti-Corruption.

To me these promises are ambiguous. Buharimeter for example stopped tracking these promises a long while ago and cancelled a town hall meeting for a review. What are we reviewing? While the army continues to fight a war in the North East, the Biafra Security Service prepares for another while the rest of the country is soaked deep in crimes like armed robbery and kidnapping. EFCC is still yet to announce the conviction of the people we all think they should have convicted while they roll out statistics of hundreds of yahoo boys who are caught of defrauding others in hundreds of dollars.

The Economy, nothing to write about!

So, the question is how did the APC Administration plan to do all these? I am of the opinion that the APC do not have a plan. I doubt if any political party does. This, if anything at all should be the priority of the President Buhari Administration for the remainder of his term (~544 days ). And answering this question should start with another question which is the very question that President Buhari, his vice and every other person whose thought matters in this administration is trying to avoid.

Can these things be achieved with the very unitary system that we have been practicing for the past 50 years and have failed?

Can we continue to expect the man in Abuja to be the one to provide light for the student in Iree and roads for the trader in Namoda and grazing land for the cattle rearer in Benue and security for the farmer in Enugu and primary health care for the sick conductor in Anifowoshe in Ikeja?

The obvious answer, if induction is anything to go by is NO! No Living Creature can run NIGERIA the way it is and be successful! Kolewerk!

Because of the nature of democracy, the scarce resources that we have cannot develop this country at the pace that we have it by spreading it thin. There is no more cake to be shared, why are we still gathering the hungry states to the centre?

Politically, there is nothing left to be gained. One only exercises power over another by the leverage of material provision or via ideas. It’s obvious we don’t do the politics of ideas in Nigeria and the material provision at the centre is running out!

In Borno, especially in Chibok and 2 other LGAs, SS2 students cannot write A-Z. Their teachers, who are being paid N7000 are now petty traders to the students and don’t come to class. In Sokoto, only 12.6% of females in the entire state have passed English and Mathematics since 2013. 90% of Doctors in Nigeria are actively seeking opportunities outside the country, including countries like Sierra Leone. Anyone can pick snippets of news and the real challenges that we face as a nation.

Who in their right minds will choose to be burdened with all these problems despite the increasing reduction in expected resources. This UNITARY SYSTEM CANNOT WORK!
