This summer while visiting a small Danish city, I wandered into a small cosy bar looking for a thirst quenching cocktail drink.

Perched inside a huge silver bowl filled with ice was this bottle of a bright orange drink that I had never seen before. The bowl was placed on a high table at the entrance. I scanned the lounge a little bit further, the more I looked, the more I saw the same cocktail on at least every table.

My friend and I decided to try on this ‘hit’ drink. We ordered for a glass of Aperol Spritz each.

When our Aperol orders arrived the ice in the glass was beginning to melt. The frizziness from the soda water made it look beautiful in a deeply thirst quenching way.

My friend and I reached for our glasses and toasted to the incredibly hot summer. One sip, two sips. Our eyes met and the first reaction uttered was., ‘what the heck is this drink!’

That was my first and last encounter with this ‘it’ drink. I think it is one that requires an acquired taste. In Denmark the hype for Aperol Spritz has been so high this summer.

I still don’t get what the hype of this bitter orange tasting drink is all about.
