Hey there fellow parents! How are y’all?

I know, today’s topic is a bit different from my usual blogs. But I’ve wanted to share this for a long time now. So, here it is.

When BGMI came back to India, I was thrilled and excited to start playing it. I was pregnant with my daughter and had stopped playing all video games during that time. But when I got to know that PUBG Mobile India, now BGMI, was coming back, I couldn’t help but dive back in.

After all, what’s a mom to do while the baby is napping?

PUBG Mobile India was banned due to some controversy, and many gamers like me were very disappointed. I started playing it again when it got re-released in 2021.

However, after a few updates, I started getting bored and uninterested. As a mom who loves playing games, I want to share my honest opinion and the reason why I stopped playing one of my favorite games.

Gameplay

BGMI offers an intense and immersive battle royale experience where 100 players fight it out to be the last one standing. The gameplay is fast-paced and thrilling, with a variety of weapons, vehicles, and gear to collect and use.

I found the controls to be intuitive even on a mobile device, which is crucial for someone like me who often has just a few minutes here and there to play.

There are different game modes to suit your mood: solo, duo, and squad. Playing in squads was particularly fun because I could team up with friends and family, turning it into a social activity.

Graphics and Sound

Visually, BGMI is stunning for a mobile game. The graphics are sharp, detailed, and really draw you into the game’s environment. Whether you’re parachuting down onto the map or scoping out enemies from a distance, the visuals keep you engaged.

It’s like a mini-vacation from the chaos of parenting… except with more explosions.

The sound design is another strong point. The audio cues are essential for gameplay, helping you detect nearby enemies and immerse yourself in the battlefield. The background music and sound effects add to the tension and excitement, making each match a gripping experience.

Storyline and Setting

BGMI doesn’t have a traditional storyline, but the setting and background do a great job of setting the stage for battle. The maps are diverse, from urban environments to lush forests, keeping the gameplay fresh and exciting. While the lack of a narrative didn’t bother me much, I did find myself more focused on the gameplay mechanics and strategy.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Engaging Gameplay: The battle royale format is addictive and keeps you coming back for more.
  • High-Quality Graphics: The visuals are impressive, especially for a mobile game. After its re-release, Krafton has added Ultra HD and Ultra Frame rate options for users with smartphones that support these settings.
  • Social Features: Playing with friends and family adds a fun, social element to the game. Random selection of players can be fun to interact with (except for the toxic ones).

Cons:

  • In-Game Purchases: While not necessary to enjoy the game, there’s a strong push towards spending money on cosmetics and other items. It tempts you to buy them, and after their new updates, you really want them.
  • Toxic Community: Unfortunately, the competitive nature can sometimes bring out the worst in people, leading to negative interactions.

Community and Social Interaction

One of the highlights of BGMI for me was the social interaction. Teaming up with friends, coordinating strategies, and celebrating victories together made the game much more enjoyable. However, it’s important to note that the community can be a mixed bag. While there are plenty of friendly players, there’s also a fair share of toxicity, which can be off-putting, especially in a game meant to be fun.

Reason for Stopping

Initially, I was drawn to BGMI for its thrilling gameplay and the chance to connect with other players. However, a few factors led me to stop playing. The increasing focus on in-game purchases started to feel overwhelming. As a parent, I’m mindful of how I spend my time and money, and this aspect of the game became a bit too much.

Even if you don’t buy anything, there’s nothing much you are missing, BTW.

Additionally, balancing gaming with parenting duties became challenging. The time I spent on BGMI started to feel like it was taking away from family time. I still manage to play other games that are less time-consuming while managing other aspects of my life.

Lastly, the toxic behavior from some players dampened my enjoyment of the game. Gaming is supposed to be fun and relaxing, and when it stops being that, it’s time to reconsider. Healthy competition is always welcome, but when it becomes more of an abuse platform, then I’m out of there. Also, don’t forget the spammers and hackers. I literally hate them.

If I wanted to deal with that much drama, I’d watch reality TV.

Moreover, the introduction of various themed updates like Spider-Man, Arabian Nights, Dragon Ball-Z, and Mecha Fusion (which is its new update), while exciting at first, eventually made the game feel cluttered and less cohesive. Each theme brought new mechanics and aesthetics, but the constant changes made it hard to keep up and sometimes disrupted the flow of the game. As a result, the core experience that I initially loved felt diluted and less engaging over time. I used to love the core gameplay, but after these updates, I felt like the game was losing its touch.

Conclusion

BGMI is an exciting and visually impressive game that offers a lot of fun, especially if you enjoy battle royale formats. However, the pressure to make in-game purchases, the occasional toxicity in the community, and the overwhelming themed updates were significant drawbacks for me.

While I enjoyed my time with BGMI, I ultimately decided that it wasn’t the right fit for me as a mom gamer. It was a great experience, and you should give it a try at least once if you are into gaming.
