I find it surprising that a horrible event like the Orlando shooting caused such a positive, tolerant and very open exchange of statements, which is great! News media therefore obviously form the common belief on certain topics, due to what and how the news are shown. But certainly this can not always be seen as something positive, that is conducing to tolerance. If we have a look at how some news media, for example tabloid newspapers like Bild, illustrate the “refugeecrisis”, we see a rather negative-towards-refugees point of view, which could create a intolerant or even hostile common belief among the audience of these news papers.

So does news media try to manipulate us or is it just trying to present the events as they are?
