January 14, 2018, became a day of freedom for 13 children living a tortured existence at the hands of their parents, David and Louise Turpin.

David Allen Turpin was 23 and Louise just 16 years old when they married in 1985. The couple became followers of the Quiverfull movement and Pentecostalism. The Quiverfull movement is a theological belief held by some conservative Christians that promotes the importance of large families. They went on to have 13 children, ten daughters and three sons.

In 1999, the family lived in Rio Vista, Texas. Oxygen’s documentary special “The Turpin 13: Family Secrets Exposed,” their Rio Vista neighbor describes the countless red flags she witnessed while living next to the family. She described the children as being dirty. But when questioned the children told her that it was a waste of water to wash past their wrists. The neighbor also stated that the children were never outside during the day, and were only allowed outside at night…
