Four Friends Die Exploring Utah’s Secret Cave

I recently saw this story on TikTok and I was so shaken by the amount of loss that resulted from this risky adventure. It sent me down a rabbit hole of deadly caves in Utah.

This particular cave is located in Provo, Utah high up on the mountain close to BYU’s infamous “Y Mountain”. Some students know it as “The Cave of Death” or the “Gollum Cave,” but for most it was and continues to be completely unknown.

Back in 2005, five friends decided to venture into the mountains at two in the morning looking for the secret cave. It’s covered in water and only four feet tall, making it more of a crawl space. The real danger is the 18x20 inch water filled tunnel that goes 15 feet from one side of the cave’s opening to another.

One of the five friends had explored the cave before, and survived. Jennifer Galbraith (21), encouraged her friends to venture into the cave with her, assuring them that they would be able to hold their breath…
