On Friday evening I joined a talk with marketing expert Daniel Priestley to delve into the world of AI, specifically how we can use Chat GPT to streamline our marketing content.

In case you missed it, Chat GPT has taken social media by storm since its launch in November 2022!

Chat GPT (Generative Pre-training Transformer) uses a deep learning technique, which allows it to process and generate large amounts of text data. The model is trained on a massive dataset of text, which enables it to understand the context and generate text that is coherent and relevant to the input it receives.

The make takeaway from Daniel’s webinar was that AI will and IS changing society. It’s time to get on board and learn how to use AI to support your existing strategies or get left behind. The new industrial revolution is here!

Those of us who produce content, rather than simply consume it, will become victorious.

To give you a very crude example of the power of AI, I asked Chat GPT (very politely) to summarise Daniel’s 30-minute introduction into succinct key points. This task alone would have previously taken an assistant hours to complete!

Setting The Scene

  • Society experiences big moments that change everything.
  • The agricultural age saw value created through natural intelligence, leading to a feudal society.
  • The introduction of technology (such as the steam tractor) led to the displacement of many people and the rise of capitalism.
  • The internet allowed for the rise of the entrepreneur class and the economy shifted to focus on intellectual property, media, and technology.
  • The current wave of change is driven by artificial intelligence and will require a new way of organising society, focused on data, algorithms, and trust.
P.S. AI even created this graphic!

What is AI?

  • AI refers to the ability of machines to perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence.
  • Subfields of AI include machine learning, natural language processing, and robotics.
  • AI is good at generating language, and there are different types of AI, such as narrow AI (e.g. calculator) and generative language AI.
  • AI can learn at an exponential speed and has the ability to quickly become the best at a task (e.g. chess).
  • AI can learn things in a short amount of time, with enough data, and can perform tasks far better than humans.

Example of AI

  • OpenAI is a company at the forefront of AI research.
  • They have released a product called GPT-3, a language generation AI.
  • GPT-3 is the third version of this type of AI and is trained on 1 trillion words of data, and can generate professional email writing, marketing copy, creative writing, legal documentation, coding, translation, and more.
  • The fourth version of GPT-3 is coming in a few months and is more powerful than the third version.
  • The next type of AI that is being developed is called Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) which can connect all the narrow AI together (think of it as a virtual assistant).
  • The final type of AI that is being researched is Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) which is the idea that AI could one day become conscious and have its own goals and visions.
  • Chat GPT is available with a free account and can generate remarkable text across a wide range of disciplines such as law, poetry, music, coding, etc.

AI Tools

  • Copy AI is a platform that allows you to give certain marketing commands and generates marketing-related content.
  • Synesthesia is a tool that allows the creation of AI avatars and AI actors.
  • Stable Diffusion and Dali Two are tools that generate images based on a given description.

From writing press releases and social media content to creating bespoke imagery or social media posts; AI has come a long way in just a matter of months. There is a plethora of new tools to support your workflow.

Don’t get me wrong, the tools are by no means perfect (for now)! But, they can and should be helping to increase your productivity.
