For Food Lovers
One of my hobbies is to try different kinds of food. I have the privilege to live in New York. So one day I decided to start trying different food. I feel like, I’m traveling around the world. I’m sure you also can get that feeling as well even if you are a tourist. But I also agree when some people say the taste is not the same as you could have if you are in the natal country. I’m Colombian, and also I got the feeling. At least we have the opportunity to have diverse food and try it.
I will recommend some restaurants that I love. I don’t think, I can fit everything in one post. So, I promise you I will have more food related post.
Colombian food
Colombian is recognized for having a typical plate called Bandeja Paisa, but to be honest I haven’t try a really good one here. They are ok. But I’m very obsessive with Arepas. It is like a corn cake, and sizes like a pita bread with a different color. Colombians usually put butter and cheese; that’s a typical way to eat it. There is other kind of Arepa which is make with sweet corn call Arepa de Chocolo. And also different ways to eat in it. Arepas Lady located in Jackson Heights is a Colombian restaurant that I truly recommend to have the best arepas ever. They have a diverse menu where you can choose anything and won’t be disappointed. You can have it with beef, chicken, chorizo or have it mixed. I also like this place because it has Colombian food but the decoration is so American. I almost forget, when you’re eating your arepa, try their homemade garlic sauce. It’s delicious!! They only receive cash.

Thai Food
Thai food is recognized for being kind of spicy. So, if you don’t like spicy. Make sure to read the menu carefully. It usually has some little jalapeños next to the plate name or a signal, warning you that it’s spicy. They may have the option to select something not spice or a vegetarian menu. One of my favorite dishes are: to start I prefer to order Edamame or roasted duck salad. For the main course: Pad Thai, Papaya salad or pineapple fried rice, and for dessert I definitely will get sticky mango rice. The first time I saw a plate with a mango and rice together, I thought “What is this combination?” but once I tasted it I got hooked. I always have it as dessert. This restaurant has two different locations one in Woodside which only accepts cash and the other one on Williston Park NY.

American Food
Whoever loves fast food, you are in the right place to try it. American people has been recognized for being busy people. So will find place where you can get something to eat pretty quick. Personally I’m not a lover of fast food. But sometimes when I’m having some drinks I used to get some of it, because of the fat.
Hot dogs, I got the ones in the street cars. The little cars in Times Square sale them. It was funny, because in my natal country we used to put a mix of onions, sauces and some potato chips. Here it is just a sausage and bread, and some sauce if you want. I tried and it was so delicious. There is also a place call Hiram’s Roadstand where they are recognized for their particular and delicious sausage, this is in Jersey but will won’t regret this 25 minutes’ commute crossing the river to try them. This is one of the benefits to live in NY. You also have the change to be in a different State in 25 minutes’ drive.
Pretzels, you can get a good one, in a place in Brooklyn call Radegast Hall & Biergarten, make sure you eat it them warn.
