I definitely see your point, if we targeting very young girls, having a flashy pink page excites and draws interest. For girls over the age of 12, they would most likely not need the impetus of a pink page to get started, but perhaps they were not the target.

To run the risk of being tangential, overall, I am unconvinced these type of exercises actually help teach the logical thinking needed in coding.
