The Constitution doesn’t provide for what you described. It may sound reasonable and all that, but the remedy for #NotMyPresident is impeachment. And if Pence is guilty of impeachable offenses, he’ll go as well. And that will keep on happening until someone honest gets into the office by whatever means they happen to get there.

The harsh reality is that the Framers never imagined we’d be in a situation where we needed a presidential election do-over. Personally, I think this points to a need for a Constitutional amendment requiring that a presidential election be scheduled not more than 90 days after a president is removed by impeachment or resignation in the face of impeachment. As much as I think Ford got a bum-rap, he was a lame duck president from the moment he pardoned Nixon.
