I am Alex St. John’s Daughter, and He is Wrong About Women in Tech

I fight every day to continue in tech, 2016 being my 17th year. I hadn’t realized how much victim mentality had creeped into me. Then my girlfriend suggested some classes. I’ve been working intensely on my integrity, time management and accountability for what I want personally and professionally for 5 months now. I’ve co-owned a small tech company for 13 years. And I’ve created a lot of pathways for women and minorities in tech. This post showed me where I can do more. Starting with changing my perspective about “fighting” to stay in tech (my own teams get vocal when I’m too aggressive while they criticize my technical or business expertise constantly).

Take away 1: shift my perspective about myself “even more.”

Take away 2: pitch in on someone else’s effort to change the landscape until my nonprofit to teach women tech is operating and contributing to the landscape.

Take away 3: start writing useful information, like this post, so I can reach more women than those in proximity to me.
