How to choose your engagement ring diamond ?
You decided it would be a diamond. It’s already a big step.
We give you the keys to choose your stone!
Here are the main caracteristics, called the 4C in jargon, necessary for your choice.
- The Carat (aka the weight of the diamond)
FYI, a carat weighs 0.20 grams.
Logic, more the number of carats increases, more the price takes off.
- The Clarity (aka the purity of the stone)
A purity scale has been put in place:
FL, IF, VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1, SI2, SI3, I1, I2, I3.
Do not take a diamond below SI2 or imperfections will be visible to the naked eye.
- The Colour
Again, a scale from D to Z exists. As we go in the alphabet, the color of the stone turns yellow. Here the D is winner, and yes, the colorless is popular, so it’s more expensive.
For info, until H, the stone remains colorless.
- The Cut (aka the shape of the diamond)
The round cut is the favorite because it is the shape that best reflects the light. As for clothes, the choice is mostly a matter of style, so let yourself be guided by your jeweler.
The best is to know where the stone comes from in order to avoid blood diamonds.
