Very few people would think of France as being Celtic. However, the region of Brittany in northwest France is one of the original six Celtic nations. It’s also one of the most beautiful regions in the country, and it’s often overlooked by international tourists. Just four hours away from Paris by train or six by car, Brittany captures all the romance of Paris and more. Here are some of the most romantic destinations within the Brittany region.

When traveling, it can sometimes be difficult to capture the essence of a place. Witness my 300+ photos of the Grand Canyon, none of which accurately portray just how vast and colorful a place it is. That experience led me to take my photos to the next level by using simple travel photography hacks. Here are the best travel photography hacks I’ve found. The first seven of them can be used regarless of what tyoe of camera you have — they will work just as well with a phone camera as they will with a high-end DSLR.

Travel TV Shows You Can’t Afford to Miss

When I’m not traveling, I spend a lot of time thinking about traveling, reading about it, researching destinations, planning itineraries for my next trip, and — thanks to Netflix — watching TV shows about travel. Five TV shows in particular have had an enormous impact on how I travel, why I travel, and where I travel. The fact that they managed to do so while being very entertaining is a bonus.

1. Scam City

Scam City is my current favorite travel TV show. It is hosted by easy-on-the-eyes Irishman Conor Woodman, who travels all over the world to learn how tourists are preyed…

Disclaimer: I am completely biased on this subject. I think that traveling is the most exciting, rewarding, and fun adventure one can have. When I hear people say that they don’t like to travel, it blows my mind. I just can’t wrap my mind around the concept of not enjoying travel. Here’s why.

Traveling is Good Because It Lets You Live Like the Rich

When we travel, we are saying goodbye to our homes for a short period of time. Usually, that means we are also saying goodbye to doing our laundry, cooking, cleaning, going through the mail, and other tedious (but necessary) chores. For one week we live like the…

In the News

Lately, there’s been a lot of talk about Guam. North Korea has been eyeing the small island in the western Pacific for target practice. I have no desire to talk about politics or Kim Jong-un. However, this is a great opportunity to learn about a place that is relatively unknown.

Who (Lives There)?

There are almost 163,000 people who reside on Guam; they are called Guamanians. Because Guam is a US territory, anyone born on the island is an American citizen.

The indigenous people, who settled there roughly 4000 years ago, are called Chamorro. The ancient Chamorro society had four classes: chamorri (chiefs)…

An annual event in the tiny town of Crisfield, Maryland (pop. 2630), draws hordes of both politicians and ordinary folks who just love seafood. It’s the J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake, and it takes place every year, always on the third Wednesday of July.

I’m not sure why exactly it’s such a big political event. Perhaps because it bears the name of a Crisfield native and former Governor of Maryland, J. Millard Tawes. The event originated as a fundraiser for the J. Millard Tawes Historical Museum and other than the former Governor’s name, it had no political association…

Small Wonder

Even though I live in Maryland, I’m only about 10 miles from the Delaware border. And Delaware is such a small state, it’s possible to drive from one end (Delmar) to the other (Beaver Valley) in just a little over two hours. Delaware has only three counties, and for a long time, its tourism tagline was “Small Wonder.”

But don’t let its size fool you. Delaware has a lot of really great events — NASCAR races in Dover, Punkin Chunkin in the fall, the Rehoboth Sea Witch Festival in October, and the Delaware State Fair in late July.

Peru Travel Tips

Even though I had been to Peru before and was comfortable with the idea of traveling there, I was still a little surprised (or at least reminded) about the quirkier aspects of traveling in this South American country. Here are some important Peru travel tips.

1. You will need your passport, even when you think you don’t.

I knew I would need my passport to leave the US and enter Peru (and vice versa) but what I didn’t know was that we would also need our passports to travel within Peru. When we flew from Lima to Cusco, we needed to show our passports. We also needed them when we bought tickets…

Sometimes picking a place to stay when we travel is as much fun as planning where to go and what to see. There are some truly amazing homes available on Airbnb that you can rent. They’re so good, they’ll make you want to book the place to stay and then plan your trip around its location, instead of vice versa!

1. The Seashell House — Isla Mujeres, Mexico

This home in a gated community on Isla Mujeres seems like it was made from two giant shells. In fact, shells dominate the decor inside the house as well. …

Are you a fan of the wildly popular Broadway musical, Hamilton? I certainly am, so I figured it might be fun to do a Hamilton road trip visiting all of the places connected to this founding father. I’m listing them in chronological order; however, I will have a list at the end that organizes the sites by state, and a map to guide you in planning your Hamilton road trip.

In New York you can be a new man

In the first year or two after his arrival on the mainland, Alexander focused on his education. During this time, he came under the influence of William Livingston, a leading…
