About Delta Basic Economy Fares

Delta’s basic economy fares are the cheapest fares to fly for great value. Passengers can still enjoy the benefits of Main Cabin experience at the same cost.

You get complimentary snacks, alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages, in-flight wifi on-demand, and limited hours access of Delta Studio to get entertained during the journey.

Rules For Delta Basic Economy Seat Selection

You can purchase seats from 7 days prior, until 24 hours to the departure. However, free seat selection is not available. The airline does seat assignment after check-in at the gate.

The cost to purchase a seat depends on the flight duration and availability. Moreover, the seat selection fee is not refundable, but you may change your seats after purchase.

It is recommended to purchase your seats on Delta’s official website, through Global Sales Support, or by calling Delta Airlines Reservations.

The other restrictions of basic economy fares will still be applicable after the seat selection.

You can only purchase seats within the basic economy cabin. Preferred seats, Comfort plus seats, and other higher cabin’s seats will not be available to purchase for Delta Basic Economy travelers.

Baggage Allowance On Basic Economy Flights

You can bring one carry on baggage and one personal item on the flight. These are the items that are allowed to bring on the flight for free.

Items like a purse, briefcase, small backpack, and camera bag considered as carry on baggage.

Items like a jacket, umbrella, duty-free items, and wheelchairs are considered as personal items.

When it comes to checking baggage, you can bring up to 2 checked baggage in the flight. The cost for 1st checked baggage is $30 and for 2nd baggage, its $40.

However, if you fly outside North America then the checked baggage fee for your 1st baggage is none. The second checked baggage can cost you $70, which is applicable to the selected international flights.

Recommended dimensions of your luggage:

Carry-on baggage: The linear dimensions of carry-on baggage should not be more than 45 linear inches (114 cm). Linear dimension of baggage includes the combined length, width, and height.

The individual length of a carry on baggage should not be more than 22"x14"x9" (56cmx35cmx23cm).

Checked Baggage: Checked baggage size should not be more than 23kg in weight for North American flights, and 50kg for international flights.

Note: Luggage that exceeds the weight and dimensions restrictions will be charged the extra amount. The extra fee of overweight or oversized baggage will be depending on the extra weight or size. Additional baggage will cost you up to $100 while traveling in Delta basic economy flight.

Benefits of traveling in Basic Economy Delta flights for Medallion Members

Delta Basic Fares comes with a lot of restrictions for the passengers.

Limitations while traveling in Delta Basic Economy:

No upfront seat assignment: Earlier the airline used to assign seats to passengers only after the check-in. However, nowadays you can pre-purchase your seat from 7 days to 24 hours prior to the flight departure. The seat’s pre-booking cost can vary, which totally depends on the seat availability and the flight duration.

No preferred seats or selective sitting arrangement: Passengers who traveling with a companion or a family may not get seats together.

Less overhead bin space: You will get an overhead bin for sure, but there might be less space availability. So if you have extra luggage or a carry on baggage, make sure to check-in to avoid inconvenience during the journey.

Flight changes & cancellations are prohibited: If your traveling plan is not rigid, then Delta’s basic economy will not be the right option for you to travel. Because you are not allowed to make changes or cancel your flight after 24 hours of booking time.

No Refunds: As you are not allowed to change or cancel your flights, you are not eligible to apply a refund for your basic economy ticket.

Restricted same-day changes: You can’t even apply for same-day standby or same-day confirmed changes for basic economy flights. If you want to make changes on the same day of departure then you have to book another flight.

No Upgrades: Delta airlines do not offer any complimentary upgrades to passengers traveling in basic economy cabins. You can’t even pay extra to get your seat or cabin upgrade.
