Day 1: “The Book That Changed My Life”

According to Albert Einstein, there are only two ways a person could live, whether he believes that everything is science and logic OR a miracle. There is beauty in both options though but I’d prefer the latter. What does this have to do with the book that changed my life? Well, let’s just say that that “book” is actually the “Book of Life”. If that phrase was encountered by a person for the first time, they would think of it as some magical object. Crazy huh? How people call it the “Book of Life” as if it breathes which is clearly impossible.

I remember myself sitting in front of a computer, trying to figure out how Facebook works. I was about 10 to 12 years old at that time and still wondering what to put on my bio (a short description about myself). A lot of ideas popped in my mind about what to put in that silly virtual box that asks so much about me (okay, maybe I was over thinking) I wanted to be creative or whatever. Instead of describing myself, I wanted to come up with a personal quote that best describes me.

After minutes of brainstorming with myself, I noticed a small box at the top shelf of our computer table. A small print of text was at the front part of the box, it says:

“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
Matthew 21:22

Okay, the first thought on my mind was: “hmm, this is a good one, I think it’ll do”. So I copied the words from the box and typed them as my Facebook bio. I have to admit, I did not really understand what the text said. I never even had the idea that it came from the Bible! I did not know what the Bible was anyway.

What is the Bible?

As far as I know, the Bible is written by 40 men. It is composed of two parts: The Old Testament which has 39 books within it and the New Testament with 27.

It was written by men? Then why do some people say it is the Words of God?
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”
 2 Timothy 3:16

Every word in the Bible is inspired by God and Him alone.

God tried to reach out to me when I was younger, before I became a slave of my own sins. It was because of that small box why Matthew 21:22 is now my life verse. It was the first words I encountered from Him!

The thing is, God meant to use this book, the Bible, to change a lot of people. To TEACH us what is right, to REBUKE us if we’ve done something that isn’t right, to CORRECT us if we’re doing something that isn’t right and to TRAIN us in doing right.

He changed the life of a man who steals money from people.

He changed the heart of a woman who sold her own body for money.

He changed my life. His book changed my life. He gave me life.

Do you look forward on what God has to say to you? Go read the Bible, it’ll never be a waste of your time. God bless!
