TP-LINK TP-SG108E
8-port Gigabit Easy Smart Switch

The TP-LINK TP-SG108E Easy Smart Switch or the 5-port version allows me to easily configure the VLAN settings so I can route them to my respective routers: SingTel AC Elite, SingTel Aztech DSL7000GRV(S), and my ASUS RT-AC5300.

Before connecting anything, I first installed the Easy Smart Configuration Utility. Then I set my laptop’s NIC IPV4 to 192.168.0.10 before connecting to the switch LAN 2. Launching the utility will give me the window below:

Main window

Click on login and enter “admin” for both username and password. It’s the default.

Login window

Then navigate to VLAN tab and 802.1Q VLAN on the side menu:

System information

The main VLAN for SingTel fibre are:
Internet: 10
MioTV: 20
VOIP: 30
Management: 40

My LAN 3 and LAN 7 are to my Singtel AC Elite and SingTel Aztech DSL7000GRV(S) respectively, so I pushed all tagged to these ports. My ASUS RT-AC5300 is on LAN 2 so I only pushed VLAN 10 untagged. It also serves as my DHCP for my main network. Note that the AC Elite and Aztech are each having their DHCP as they are connected via the WAN port. The AC Elite currently only serves my MINIX Neo U9-H and guest WiFi. My Aztech is idle. LAN 8 is connected directly to my MioTV so I had to pushed VLAN 20 untagged.

VLAN > 802.1Q VLAN

Next is to set the PVID. Port 8 is to my MioTV so PVID is 20. The rest except port 1 are for internet services so PVID 10. This is to ensure on untagged packets coming through will be tagged as 10.

VLAN > 802.1Q PVID

Now you’re done! Don’t forget to reboot and save your config, and set your laptop NIC to obtain addresses automatically. You can plug to port 2 directly to test if you receive a WAN IP and you should be able to browse the internet.

System > System reboot
